During the awards ceremony of DocsBarcelona Pro, held on May 13 at Barcelona’s Casa Montjuïc, IDF’s Programme Director Veronika Janatková presented the East Doc Platform Award to the project Diary of Experiences, directed by Dorota Roś.
She highlighted the project’s powerful exploration of identity, loss, and transformation: "We take the body for granted until something is lost, without warning, without choice. When a voice disappears, what remains can feel like a disorienting void. Yet here, losing the voice is the very rupture where agency emerges. Between silence and signal, the power and courage arise to rebuild oneself and to find a new way of being heard."

Diary of Experiences follows Konrad, who loses his voice after undergoing surgery for laryngeal cancer. As he works on developing an AI-powered device to speak again, what begins as an attempt to reconstruct his voice gradually becomes a much deeper search for intimacy, belonging, and identity. Directed by Dorota Roś and produced by Zofia Kujawska for Telemark, the 75-minute documentary is a co-production between Poland and the Czech Republic.
By receiving the East Doc Platform Award, the project secures participation in East Doc Market 2027, one of the key industry events dedicated to Central and Eastern European documentaries. The market connects filmmakers with more than 70 international funders, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, and festival representatives through curated one-on-one meetings designed to support financing, co-production, and international distribution opportunities. East Doc Market is part of East Doc Platform, the largest co-production, funding, and distribution platform tailored to documentary projects from Central and Eastern Europe.
This year’s DocsBarcelona Pro awards celebrated projects distinguished by strong artistic vision and international potential. According to DocsBarcelona Pro Co-Artistic Director Èric Motjer, the selected winners represent “courageous authorial perspectives” that take both narrative and aesthetic risks while resonating with international industry professionals.
