The Lyricist

The author’s intention was to show the reality and the "different faces" of Czechoslovakia on the specific example of one individual – the historian Ján Mlynárik. Our documentary is not just a portrait of a martyr or a fighter marked by some unpleasant experiences. Our ambition was to study the life of the main protagonist and, on its basis, to reflect on the developments in the former Czechoslovakia. The final look of the film should provide a complete picture of what the generation of today’s septuagenarians lived through in a country that is two separate countries today. However, the information provided by the historian is relevant even for a viewer who didn’t directly experience the post-war period in Czechoslovakia because the topics he dealt with still resonate to this day.
