Michael Lee

lived in Prague from 1992-1998, where he founded the prestigious international literary magazine Trafika and shot and directed documentaries and
cultural programming for Czech Television and TV-3. He has since lived and worked in New York before moving to Johannesburg, where he has directed for SABC programmes including Walala Wasala, Get Real, and The Big Question. He is the recipient of a Ford Foundation Fellowship, a Chashama Residency, and an Individual Artist Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. He has lectured on documentary at AFDA (South Africa's top film school) and is a co-founder of SAY IT IN DV, a digital video youth training initiative currently operating in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique. He speaks Spanish, French, Czech, and some German and Russian and is currently studying Zulu in preparation for completing this film. He first encountered the Stable Theatre in March of 1998 and has been developing this documentary as a long-term labor of passion ever since.
