Křehká identita
Ve filmu Křehká identita hledá osobitá slovenská režisérka Zuzana Piussi současnou podobu toho, jak její krajané chápou svoji národnost. Vyslovuje obavu, že slovenské národnostní cítění má křehké kořeny a je snadno politicky zneužitelné. Její hrdinové se často vymezují vůči významným českým postavám československých dějin a hledají nacionální kořeny ve společné „přednacionální“ minulosti Velké Moravy. I když mnohé příběhy působí tragikomicky, bouřlivý vývoj sjednocené Evropy ukazuje, že hledání vlastní identity je křehká věc nejen na Slovensku.
Malaria 1983
Malaria 1983 is an immersive documentary video game where the player takes the role of a tropical parasitologist on a dangerous mission in the post genocide Cambodia. The interactive story is closely based on the autobiographical book "To Heal, To Survive" (Léčit a přežít) and personal diaries of Dr. Michal Giboda. The player is hurled into a twisted Cold War world of cruel political schemes, post-colonial cynicism and swarms of malaria infected mosquitoes. The task is to face the upcoming challenges through reason and scientific method. You have limited resources, mental energy and you will have to compromise. Will you help the infected patients at the local field hospital where all the former doctors have been executed or will you prioritize your long-term research? Despite being a part of historical events and political shifts, you never get to see the grand picture of things. What you understand with confidence is the internal perspective, the microcosmos of blood and other bodily fluids is what you focus on every day. Your closest companions are petri dish, centrifuge and an old microscope. However, without having the right political connections and profile, your research will hardly ever get published, or at least not under your name and credit.
Farský rybník
“Green” influencer and filmmaker Prokop Pithart is not afraid to openly criticize the institutions responsible for nature conservation and their flawed approach to protecting the environment. But theorizing online is not enough for him. He decides to restore a leased pond in the heart of the Třeboň Basin to nature and prove to the world that it is possible to manage it sustainably.
Together with his father, a hydrobiologist, other natural scientists and friends, he embarks on a challenging journey, documenting it all in a video diary. But nature plays by its own rules. Moments of revival alternate with minor and major disasters: first, the pond becomes overgrown with cattails, then it nearly dries up. Even the first fish harvest brings little reason for celebration.
Increasingly frustrated, Prokop begins to lose faith in the purpose of his efforts. His refuge becomes filming the surrounding wildlife. Spectacular wildlife footage, captured with the help of fellow filmmakers, helps both him and the audience understand the intricate relationships within the rare and endangered pond ecosystem, protected as part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
A particularly meaningful encounter comes when a family of little ringed plovers nests on the dried-up pond bed and successfully raises its young. Because nature makes use of every situation — even those that may appear to humans as loss or defeat.
Just as Prokop slowly begins to come to terms with reality, water starts flowing into the pond again, almost miraculously. Perhaps thanks to his hard work, perhaps through a combination of circumstances beyond his control. What will happen to the pond next?
